This tutorial should be made with extreme caution, and never on a live production system. This procedure sometimes fails and data might be lost. LusoVPS isn't responsable for any problem arising from the use of this tutorial. Use it at your own risk.
This tutorial will help you to install the GPLPV drivers on Windows. This way you'll get the network working correctly, since the QEMU network driver is faulty and doesn't work well.
First, login at our Management Portal: https://management.lusovps.com The details to login are available on the email with your product details.
Click on Settings Tab and make sure that you have your management page like this:
Select the VPS you want to install. It should be an HVM VPS. Click on the CDRom Tab and unmount if any mounted. Select the 100Mbps/1Gbps Windows Network Drivers CDRom and click Mount.
If everything is ok, you should be able to see a screen exactly like this:
Next, you need to reboot the VPS so that this new CDRom will get mounted:
After reboot, login at your Administrator account. Open the mounted CDRom by clicking Start->My Computer
And then double click on the new CDRom named Drivers.
Now select the GPLPV folder
Select the file for Windows you're setting up. In this case, we are using Windows 2008 R2 x64, and therefore we are going to select Vista2008x64_signed_xxxx
When the Setup Starts, click on Custom
By default, the setup will install everything. But we don't want that. We want to leave out the drivers for the HDD. So, click on the Drivers, and select "Entire feature will be unavailable". This way we will select only what we want.
To install what we need, right click on the Drivers and select Will be installed on local hard drive.
Now, make sure that your setup is the same as the following image. As said before, we don't want to have the HDD drivers installed.
After clicking next, your setup will begin:
And eventually it will end. You shouldn't worry about new device drivers coming up. Don't do anything if it does.
The setup will ask you to reboot the system. You need to reboot it to setup everything correctly.
Even after the reboot, the system will detect new hardware, and ask you to perform another reboot:
Now, your network is installed. But by default, this driver has a problem that it has a configuration that we don't need. Right click on Start->My Computer and select Properties:
Click on Device Manager on the left top of the screen
Select the Network Adapters. You should be able to see the Xen Net Device Driver. Double Click on that
Click on the Advanced Tab, and Disable Large Send Offload.
Now it's time for another Reboot. Perform a soft reboot on the VPS to apply the changes. After the startup, you need to check if the DHCP server gave you the correct IP address. This usually works correctly, but we've seen it not giving away the IP address sometimes. So see if you have received a DHCP IP address, click on the Network and Sharing Center
Click on the Local Area Connection
Click on the Details, to show up this window:
As you can see, the IP address assigned is a Network IP address. This means that the VPS doesn't have internet connection, since the IP Address is wrong. Let's setup the IP address manuall. Click Close, and then click Properties. Double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
You can use the details sent on your email to setup the internet connection. Also you can use your Management page to check the IP address.
Let's check again the Details on the Local Area Connection
Everything should be ok now.
