IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) is the new protocol designed to replace the vastly used IPv4. The main difference between both of the protocols is that IPv4 is built with a 32bit address, IPv6 is built with a 128bit address. What does this mean? Well, just numbers.
To now all the possible combinations available on a 32bit Address, and a 128bit Address, we'll just perform this simple calculus:
2^32 = 4.294.967.296 (4 billion IP addresses available on IPv4) 2^128 = 3.4028236692093846346337460743177e+38
That's a lot of IP addresses! Virtually impossible to run out in the following centuries.
Since the beginning, LusoVPS has been a defender that IPv6 should rule over IPv4. For this to be even possible to work, every ISP need to support IPv6 by upgrading it's hardware(starting from routers, switches, firewalls, and all the rest), which may cause a disruption on the current economic status of the company. But that's just something we do not want to know.
As I was saying, LusoVPS supports IPv6, and we even have a dedicated IPv6-only VPS (which is much cheaper than any other VPS). The main problem is that since most of the ISPs didn't upgrade, the users cannot connect to the VPS.
To solve this problem, we found a very interesting website wich offers IPv6 on IPv4 tunnelling. This means that you can have IPv6 on your IPv4 connection, without a big hassle.
Go to this website: http://www.gogo6.com/profile/gogoCLIENT
From there, you need to login to the website. You can register or you can use your facebook account to login.
Download the client for the OS you need
After downloading, install it. Do not change anything. On the wizard just press "Next, Next, Next...". In the end leave the "Run Gogo6" ticked.
Do not touch any configuration on the client. Click Connect. Once connected you'll be able to access the web using IPv6. The first website you sould visit is http://ipv6.google.com
Having this configuration done, you can connect to our servers using the IPv6 supplied to your VPS.
